Did you know that we have global overpopulation?

Surely, you should have noticed that the planet has gotten a little crowded. Now, given the condition of overpopulation, why is it that so many people get fertility treatments so that they can have more kids? Better yet, why aren't these treatments banned? Then, of course there are the people that think they need to have 20 kids because the only way they can "spread their religion" is to crowd out the competition. Look, I don't want to know what happens when 1 trillion people face resource exhaustion. I am sure that it is not a pretty sight.

What's it, that verse about being "fruitful" or some such? I think that's why there are so many fundie babies.

If I ever want a kid, there are plenty of kids out there already existing without parents (or at least competent ones). I think I'd rather try that route.

Lastly, I don't think anyone who doesn't want to notice overpopulation will until they're shoulder-to-shoulder, every square foot of space taken up by heaps of bodies.

Fundamentalists, catholics, muslims, I think jews and mormons as well. There is something more than just blind faith in the bible at work here.

Maybe. Many of the religions you listed could have an assortment of reasons for pumping out the babies, though.

I will stand by what I said with the bible for fundamentalists, but Catholics could have other reasons entirely -- like their adamant hatred of contraceptives coupled with the belief that sex is only for procreation and only for married couples. So, when one of the prospective members of the family has hormonal moments, they are figuratively forced to have sex without protection and live with whatever happens afterward.

Jews and Mormons don't (as consistently) have a lot of papers done on their perceived obligation to reproduce. But I'll get back to you if I find some good ones.
